Prof. Dr. Sujeet Kumar Shaw was born on 11 October 1976 at Telinipara, under Bhadreswar Municipality, in the Chandannagar subdivision of Hooghly district, West Bengal, India.
He was raised in a family with limited financial resources.
His father, Late Binda Shaw, worked at the Victoria Jute Mill in Gondalpara.
At approximately three to four years of age, Sujeet Kumar Shaw suffered a serious accident that resulted in:

Loss of vision in his right eye
The accident created a lifelong physical challenge, but it did not stop his pursuit of education.

प्रोफेसर डॉ. सुजीत कुमार शॉ का जन्म 11 अक्टूबर 1976 को पश्चिम बंगाल के हुगली जिले के चन्दननगर महकमा स्थित भद्रेश्वर पौरसभा अंतर्गत तेलिनीपाड़ा में हुआ।
उनके पिता स्वर्गीय बिंदा शॉ गोंडलपाड़ा की विक्टोरिया जूट मिल में कार्यरत थे।
लगभग तीन से चार वर्ष की आयु में हुई एक गंभीर दुर्घटना में उनका:
दाहिना हाथ चला गया

दायीं आँख की दृष्टि समाप्त हो गई।
इसके बावजूद उन्होंने शिक्षा का मार्ग नहीं छोड़ा।
आर्थिक कठिनाइयों के दौरान ऐसे अवसर भी आए जब उन्हें सड़क की रोशनी के नीचे अध्ययन करना पड़ा।
बचपन के इन संघर्षों ने आगे चलकर उनमें कमजोर एवं जरूरतमंद विद्यार्थियों के प्रति विशेष संवेदनशीलता विकसित की।
